Verizon Takes the Heat off Parents with Cool Summer Safety Tech
School’s out for the summer. Kids are spending more time outside, with their friends and sometimes online. Online safety for children has been a big concern for Verizon. They were nice enough to loan us Winnie Wright once again with some summer safety tips that have been concerns for some of their consumers.
“As a parent, I know it can be very stressful to not have your eyes on your kids at all times. And when they’re home during the summertime, there’s a lot more time that you aren’t able to see them. Between playing outside with friends, working summer jobs, or maybe staying home while you’re working, that kind of increases the stress level for parents. We’re committed to making sure that families are empowered and also connected,” Winnie Tells us. “So our first summer safety tip is to take action in managing your children’s privacy settings. It seems kind of obvious, but this actually is a question that we get asked about quite frequently: how to make sure that other users and apps aren’t trying to target and obtain your children’s information and maybe their location and other private data.
It’s something that seems simple, but it’s a really good idea to just continuously go through those private privacy settings, rather than limit the likelihood that bad actors have any access to your children’s data.”
With kids spending time at home, and inside avoiding the heat it’s always a good idea to set internet boundaries and make sure to keep a check on the privacy settings. But also for days that they’re going to be away and outside, Verizon suggests a starter phone for kids who are ready and a Gizmo watch for kids that you need to communicate with but aren’t quite ready for a phone.
“The Google Pixel 8A is the perfect, dependable phone for your child because not only does the Google Pixel 8 have all the latest technology, the fun features that your kids will love at a price point that really makes sense for your children, but also it’s easily integrated with Google’s Family Link, which can make sure you’re able to integrate all three of those summer safety tips very seamlessly into this device,” says Wright. “And then over here, we’ve got for your younger kids with the Gizmo watch three adventure, children are able to call and text pre-approved contacts, but there’s also an S.O.S. button allow. You’re allowing your child to immediately call mom. But also there’s that real time location tracking on the watch. It’s accessible through the GizmoHub app. So again, you’re able to monitor control, watch everything all in one place. It’s very durable. It’s ready for those little kiddos and it even has a charging capability where they can use it as an alarm clock. So you can start teaching some of those responsible habits as well as fitness and learning apps.”
