Video Surfaces of Officer Involved Shooting in Chattanooga

Chattanooga Police said they received a call about an individual behaving unusually.

When officers arrived at Woodland View Circle at the Emma Wheeler homes late Saturday morning, they found 24-year-old Javorio Shante Eagle holding a gun, a knife, and a baby.

Before police arrived, Chief Fred Fletcher said they were told that people heard at least one gunshot from inside the home.

Officers then determined that it mayhave been a hostage situation.

They then requested SWAT enforcement, hostage negotiators, and mental health officers on scene.

Officers said Eagle entered and exited the home several times.

The final time he stepped outside, the child was able to get away from Eagle and into the safety of officers.

Chief Fletcher said Eagle then moved "aggressively" towards the officer and the child all while still holding the weapons.

"Multiple officers on scene discharged their weapons and struck the suspect multiple times. The suspect fell to the ground."

Eagle was taken to Erlanger Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Chief Fletcher has asked the public for assistance with the investigation.

"If anybody does have cell phone or other video or documentation of that we implore you to bring it to the lead investigators."

The officers involved in the incident will be off duty for the next 7 days as well as receiving mental health support.
