Vine Street Federal Courthouse Plans Proceed
We finally know where Chattanooga’s new federal courthouse will stand.
The U.S. General Services Administration will build on the Vine Street location.
According to the GSA, selecting that site will speed up the construction process by more than 2 years and save tax payers up to $117 million.
They say they arrived at those figures after an extensive selection process.
The new courthouse will cover nearly 200,000 square feet and include 7 courtrooms and 9 chambers.
The design process has begun.
Construction-related activities should start soon.
No official word yet when the new courthouse will be up and running.
Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly had hoped the GSA would build on the downtown TVA site.
“We carefully considered all options for the new Chattanooga courthouse. The Vine Street site is the location where we’ll deliver a courthouse that’s secure, constructed swiftly, saves taxpayer dollars, and complies with President Trump’s EO on Big Beautiful Buildings. We’re being decisive and ensuring our judiciary partners have a superior courthouse to uphold the rule of law.”
