Toney’s lawyer: “Nothing warranted a savage attack by that officer” for “non-violent offenses”

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Merritt Law Firm, LLC called a press conference annoucing they are representing Charles Toney in his “claims involving certain civil rights violations occurring on Monday, December 3, 2018, involving Detective Blake Kilpatrick of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.”

The law firm says that Detective Kilpatrick, along with at least two other unidentified officers, violently assaulted Toney while he was handcuffed and non-combative.

You can see in this video you can see Kilpatrick can be seen repeatedly punching and kicking handcuffed Toney.

The law firm wrote in a press release that this incident “represents clear civil rights violations which demand the immediate termination of the officers involved and appropriate criminal investigation and accountability.

This office is investigating and preparing a Federal Civil Rights Complaint on behalf of Toney against Hamilton County and offending officers.”

He says Toney had a “collapsed lung, several broken ribs, broken nose” from the interaction with Deputy Kilpatrick.

They say “his bond, for the ‘non-violent charges’ that he was arrested for, was $250.”

On Monday, the sheriff’s office held a press conference with the NAACP about the department’s investigation.

On Tuesday night, Concerned Citizens for Justice spoke out at the Chattanooga City Council meeting.
