Vols Celebrate First Win Over Ranked Team After Beating Kentucky

Tennessee has come close to beating some ranked teams this year.
And last night they finally broke through, upsetting 4th ranked Kentucky 82-80.
It was the second straight year the Vols beat the Cats on Rocky Top.
After Tennessee handed Kentucky their first SEC loss of the year, Cats coach John Calipari said the Vols deserved to win. Rick Barnes would agree.
Said Barnes:”Well we were good tonight. We were by far. It’s the best we have played all year.I like to think that the schedule we have played this year finally showed up to help us break through and get a win against an outstanding team.”
Tennessee got a much needed effort from senior Robert Hubbs, who scored 25-points.
Said Calipari:”He is really a steady player for them. He knows where he can score baskets, and he gets himself in those areas to make baskets.”
The Vols also made clutch plays down the stretch like this jump hook from Grant Williams with 15-seconds left to put UT up five.
Barnes said the game plan was to get the ball inside.
Said Barnes:”Our guards did what they were supposed to do as opposed to just starting to jack shots up and trying to do too much. We went through a period where they did. I saw Lew and Grant tell them both to calm down. To tell our guards to calm down and start playing the way we needed to play.”
The Vols were 5 of 10 on three-pointers, while Kentucky was 6 of 24.
The Cats also had 14 turnovers and only 14 assists.
Said Calipari:”We were getting 30 assists. We’re at 14. next week it may be seven. I mean you’ve got to pass the ball to each other. But we’re all freshmen. We may need to lose a few games in-a-row, and then have them come to my office in mass and say coach, we surrender. Tell us what you want us to do.”
