Vols Come So Close to Playing in SEC Title Game
Tennessee’s loss to Florida back in September was a heart breaker, and it still stings today.
Because if the Vols had not blown that 13-point lead in the fourth quarter, they would be in the SEC Championship game this weekend, and not the Gators.
Tennessee of course had Florida on a 4th and 14 with under two minutes left in the game, when Antonio Callaway scored on a 63-yard touchdown reception.
Vols then missed a long field goal on the final play of the game to lose 28-27.
Tennessee athletic director Dave hart admits it stinks coming so close to the SEC title game, but at the same time, Hart likes the future on Rocky Top.
Said Hart,"I think everyone in our organization would like to have been in Atlanta. We’ll be in Atlanta. This was a good step this year. Winning eight games was a very positive step for our football program. It has been a long time since we have played an entire regular football season where we had a chance to win every game. I mean my first year here we were blown out of a lot of stadiums during that regular season and the seasons that followed. That’s why I say our football program is healthy again."
