Vols Derek Barnett Closing in School Record For Career Sacks

Even though Tennessee’s defense has struggled at times this season, Derek Barnett has been the one constant.
The junior defensive end could wind up enjoying an All-American season.
Last week against South Carolina, Barnett recorded three sacks to bring his total to nine for the season, which is tied for the best in the nation.
One more sack this year, and he’ll become the first UT player to ever record double digit sacks in three seasons.
Barnett has 29 career sacks, and if he can rack up four more, he’ll break Reggie White’s school record.
Said defensive end LaTroy Lewis:”I mean at the end of the day, Derek will end up being one of the greatest defensive lineman to ever play at Tennessee or the SEC or college football period.”
Reporter:”How much better do you feel like you can be?”
Said Barnett:”I mean I really don’t think about the numbers. Just try to get better each week I play. Try to improve off of it.”
Added head coach Butch Jones:”Derek Barnett is recruiting every day to play some running back. But not quite game ready yet.”(chuckles)
