Vols Forward Jabari McGhee Set to Transfer
Tennessee basketball coach Rick Barnes announced Tuesday that redshirt freshman forward Jabari McGhee will transfer after the conclusion of the Fall semester. “Jabari and I had a great discussion about what he wants,” Barnes said. “He’s a ‘team guy,’ and what he ultimately wants is to have a more impactful role on his team, which I understand. We love him, and we want to see him be successful. We’ll do everything we can to help him find a school that is the right fit for him.” McGhee appeared in 14 career games for the Vols, averaging 4.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 12.0 minutes per contest. A foot injury ended his freshman campaign after just eight games last season. And in six games played this year, the Albany, Georgia, native averaged 3.8 points and 3.2 rebounds. He scored a career-high 10 points at Georgia Tech on Nov. 16. “I’ve truly enjoyed my time here,” McGhee said. “Playing in Thompson-Boling Arena was a great experience, and the fans are wonderful. “As a player, I absolutely feel like Coach Barnes is a great coach. I love my teammates, and there’s no doubt in my mind Tennessee is going to have a really good team. But this is what’s best for me right now.” |
