Vols Freshman QB Nico Iamaleava Adjusting to Up-Tempo Offense

Vols freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava (ee-ah-MAH-LAY-ah-va) was named the top recruit in the country for the 2023 class by On3.com.
He’s super talented, and he’s already going through spring drills at Tennessee, where he’s having fun with Coach Heupel’s up-tempo offense.

Said Nico:”Yeah you can watch it all day you want. All night long. When you are actually in the offense, it’s a whole different ballgame. Just getting that temp down is way different than just watching it from the stands.”
Said offensive coordinator Joey

Halzle:”He’s mature beyond his years. He doesn’t act like a freshman. But with that said, the first timei you take the field, no matter how prepared you are, going from high school to college, it’s fast.”
Reporter:”What are you expectations your freshman year.”
Said Nico:”Yeah my expectations my freshman year is just be ready. I’m trying to get prepared as fast as I can. Be ready whenever my number is called and help Joe out best way possible I can.”
