Vols Get Big Test Against Pittsburgh

Beating Bowling Green was pretty easy last week for Tennessee.
Time now for the big test as the Vols host Pittsburgh.
Should be a good measuring stick to see exactly where the program is at under their first year head coach.

When it comes to offensive execution, Josh Heupel didn’t go Brian Kelly in discussing his team’s second half execution against Bowling Green, but quarterback Joe Milton completed just 1 of 8 passes in the final two quarters.
Said Heupel:”The second half of that ballgame was probably as poorly as we have executed since we started training camp. Somebody asked that question after the ballgame. I didn’t want to answer that before. For whatever reason. We can get back and execute the way we did early in the football game.”
Executing General Neyland’s seven maxims against Pittsburgh would help.
Said Heupel:”We read the maxims before every game. Our players see it. It’s in our building. They walk by it every single day. As I’ve gotten here and tried to understand what the players felt are important traditions in the history of Tennessee football. That was one of the things that they mentioned right away. It’s why we continue saying them in the locker room.”
Now Pittsburgh struts into Neyland stadium as the favorite against the Volunteers.
They enjoy solid offensive execution with quarterback Kenny Pickett, who is now in his fifth year as the Panthers QB.
Said Heupel:”I couldn’t believe he’s still around. Been there forever. (chuckles) He has got the ability to make plays and uniquely extend and create some plays.”
Said defensive lineman Caleb Tremblay:”Their offensive line is a lot older. They have more experience. Not only can he run, but the offensive line creating the pocket is going to allow him to run better.”
Reporter:”Do you see Pitt being comparable to an SEC opponent that you guys have faced?”
Said linebacker Tyler Baron:”I think Pitt is as comparable opponent as anybody in the country. I think on their best day they can be as good as whoever and just like us on their worst day they can be bad. I see them being a very formidable opponent this week.”
