Vols LB Dillon Bates Out For the Year With Shoulder Injury

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee reserve linebacker Dillon Bates has a torn labrum and will miss the remainder of the season.
Volunteers coach Butch Jones announced Bates’ injury Monday at his weekly news conference. Bates, a freshman, made six tackles in Tennessee’s first four games. Jones said Tennessee (2-2, 0-1 SEC) would seek a redshirt exemption for Bates.
Jones said quarterback Justin Worley should be at 100 percent for Saturday’s game with Florida (2-1, 1-1) after briefly leaving a 35-32 loss to Georgia last week with an elbow injury. Worley missed three series before returning in the fourth quarter.
The status of receivers Von Pearson and Josh Smith remains uncertain as they recover from high ankle sprains. Pearson has missed two games. Smith sat out the Georgia game.
