Vols NCAA Regional Features Plenty of Home Run Firepower
The number one ranked Vols baseball team hosts an NCAA Regional Friday..
Georgia Tech, Campbell, and Alabama State will join Tennessee in Knoxville, and it’s look like this regional could turn into a home run derby.
Tennessee led the nation in home runs this season, but regional opponents Campbell and Georgia Tech also finished top ten in the nation in home runs.
Said catcher Evan Russell:”I think it’s a real good regional. It’s going to be exciting for the fans. Any team that makes a regional is going to be a really good team. I think there’s a lot of firepower in this regional.”
Said head coach Tony Vitello:”So the statistics would say all four teams are very dangerous as it relates to extra base hits. I would key in on more that all four play a very exciting brand of offensive baseball. And so if you are a fan watching it on TV or fortunate enough to have one of these expensive tickets that’s floating around, then you are going to see the type of action that’s gonig to keep in the game or even keep you on the edge of your seat.”
Might be hard for pitchers to get the edge at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Said pitcher Chase Dollander:”Just doing what you do every outing. Just throw strikes. Obviously they are going to put some barrels on it. If they do, oh well. Tip your hat and keep going.”
Said Vitello:”We are in a similar rhythm to what we were last weekend when had some success. A bunch of really good teams, but also you could argue three of the hottest teams in the country swinging the bat we ran into with LSU, Kentucky, and also Florida at the time. Our pitchers did really well.”
For Tennessee…just play like their number one ranking.
Said Dollander:”This time of year no team is going to be bad. It’s just how it is. Throughout the locker room we’ve just kind of been talking about it. Stick to our game. If we stick to that, we’ll be good you know. We are playing some really good baseball right now.”
