Vols to Open Knoxville Regional Against Miami of Ohio

(utsports.com) – For the fourth time in five years, Tennessee will host an NCAA Baseball Regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Volunteers will begin their 2025 postseason run and national title defense by hosting the Knoxville Regional, which features No. 2 seed Wake Forest (ACC at-large), No. 3 seed Cincinnati (Big 12 at-large) and No. 4 seed Miami (OH) (MAC Champion).

UT, which is the No. 14 national seed, will be hosting its ninth NCAA Regional in program history and fourth under head coach Tony Vitello. Tennessee is making its sixth consecutive regional appearance and 15th appearance in the NCAA tournament overall.

Should the Vols advance from the Knoxville Regional, they would play the winner of the Fayetteville Regional hosted by No. 3 national seed Arkansas.

The Big Orange enter the tournament after making a run to the SEC Tournament semifinals for the fourth time in the last five seasons. UT posted a 43-16 overall record, including a 16-14 mark in SEC play.

The Vols will look to continue their home dominance in the postseason, having won their last six regionals in Knoxville. Tennessee is 23-5 all-time in NCAA regional games played at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, including a perfect 9-0 record during the Vitello era (2021, 2022, 2024).

UT was one of an NCAA Tournament record 13 teams from the SEC to make the field, including a record-tying eight regional hosts.
