Volunteer Call: Mentoring Students Through tnAchieves
But that includes more than just the money to go.
The state is also recruiting mentors to help students with the transition.
And that’s where you come in.
tnAchieves is recruiting volunteer mentors.
They need adults (21 or older) to encourage students and be a clearing house for information they need.
tnAchieves will train you on how to do it.
Their data shows working with a mentor increases the chances that a student will continue a post-secondary education.
tn Achieves students are 21 percent more likely to enter college.
You can choose the high school you want to work with.
They want you to invest 10-15 hours a year helping between 5-10 high school seniors.
Those hours include a training session and meetings with your students.
The deadline to apply for next year’s class is in November.
Note, you will have to submit to a background check.
