Volunteers needed for veteran flag commemoration in Ringgold

RINGGOLD, Ga. (WDEF) — Volunteers will be raising full-size flags and crosses throughout the city in memory of deceased veterans of Catoosa County on Friday, November 3.

The bi-annual “The Festival of Flags” is held during the remembrance of Memorial Day and Veterans Day each year.

This year, there will be 2,042 flags flown in honor of fallen Catoosa County heroes.

Volunteers are needed to help place the flags.

Flags will go up at 10 a.m. Friday, November 3 and will come down on Monday, November 20.

Volunteers need help getting these flags placed on Friday as well as taken down on the 20th.

“November the 20th we’ll take them down, and that’s really a workday. We get a three days’ worth of work done in one day. So, anybody that wants to come out on the 20th, we greatly appreciate it,” volunteer Gilbert Childers said.

Childers said this tradition has been carried on since the ’70s.

They’re hoping for a great turnout in on Friday in Catoosa County as well as their Veterans Day celebrations the following week.
