Volunteers needed in Chattanooga partnership with Ukrainian city
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Mayor Tim Kelly took part in an online ceremony this week formalizing a partnership between Chattanooga and the Ukrainian city of Trostayanets.
Chattanooga volunteers will help rebuild the city after the Russian invasion.
The small city of 20,000 is near the Russian border and was occupied by the Russian army for a month.
Their infrastructure and hospital have been seriously damaged.
But the agreement is a long-term cultural commitment between the two cities.
“When I met Mayor Bova, I immediately knew that there was a bond between our cities that will help the citizens of Trostanets to rebuild,” said Mayor Kelly.
The deal is voluntary with no money being committed by the city of Chattanooga.
The city is still looking for volunteers to help.
