Voter Registration Day in the Tennessee Valley

Today is national Voter Registration Day, and if you’re not registered yet… it’s never been a better time to get it done.

“I’ve always told my daughter, and my son, and my granddaughters that voting is a privilege,” says Pam O’ Connell a registered voter.

Pam O’Connell says she brought her granddaughter to the Hamilton County Election Commission to register for her very first General Election.

“I just felt that this was such an important election coming up in November, with the first woman Presidential candidate, that I wanted to give her the opportunity to make sure she could vote if she wanted to.”

O’Connell says she first registered to vote when she was just 18 years old, and hasn’t missed an election since.

“I’ve been lucky enough to travel a little bit, when I was younger, and now as I’m retired, and when you travel you see we really have the best of all worlds here. It’s not perfect but part of making it better is to vote.”

“I think it’s really important. A lot of people don’t vote, and I’m not one of those. I feel that this is our one chance to make our opinions heard, and to make sure the person we want is elected. I think it’s an exciting process.”

“It’s a very important election. Haha, okay? For all different kinds of people in America. The person who will represent all the different kinds of people. The diversity of this country, gender rights and so forth, I’m voting for that.”

“The two candidates are really divisive. I have some real concerns if one candidate does win. But I think we need to learn how to talk to each other about these things, and learn how to respect each other,” says Pam O’ Connell.

The voter registration deadline is October 11, 2016. For more information on how to get your voice heard click here.
