Walker County Man Confirmed Dead after Thursday’s Storms

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — A local man has been confirmed dead following Thursday’s storms. Officials stated that an employee of the Georgia Department of Transportation was killed in the line of duty.

Officials confirmed on Friday that GDOT employee, Sean Kornacki, was killed while helping clear the roads of storm damage. He was 40 years old.

Kornacki was the Walker County Highway Maintenance foreman, who lived in Lafayette, Georgia.

State Senator Colton Moore says that Kornacki worked his entire career to keep Northwest Georgia roads safe. Moore says he spent 16 years serving the State of Georgia Department of Transportation.

“Today we honor Sean’s life and his family during this difficult time,” Moore said. “Our prayers are with all families who tragically lost loved ones across Georgia due to these storms.
