Walker County supports CHI Memorial’s new hospital plan on Battlefield Parkway
Read their letter of support in the face of a Parkridge challenge
ROCK SPRING, Georgia (WDEF) – Walker County government is supporting CHI Memorial’s plans to build a new hospital in neighboring Catoosa County.
Their leaders attended the announcement by CHI Memorial of their plans to replace their existing facility on the Walker/Catoosa line with the full service hospital down Battlefield Parkway.
Of course, their old facility is the former Hutcheson Hospital that proved a financial sinkhole for Walker County.
But the Parkridge Hospital company is challenging CHI Memorials expansion plans in their service area and reduce care for Walker residents.
In a statement, “Walker County Government strongly disagrees with this claim. The replacement hospital would be five miles from the current site in Fort Oglethorpe and any increase in drive times for Walker County residents will be negligible. In fact, some residents will actually save a couple of minutes driving to the replacement site, which already provides access to several hospital services and physician offices.
So the Board of Commissioners in Walker County have submitted a second letter to state regulators supporting Memorial’s plan.
The state will make a decision on the certificate of need for the new hospital on April 29.
