Wallethub’s fattest US cities list includes 4 from Tennessee
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) — A study by Wallethub places a lot of Tennessee cities in the top 20 fattest cities in the US.
Memphis comes in at number one, Chattanooga is sixth, Knoxville ranks at twelfth and Nashville is number fourteen.
Memphis had the highest percentage of physically inactive adults and Knoxville had the second highest percentage. Nashville came in as fourth.
Knoxville was fourth for highest percentage of adults with high blood pressure and Chattanooga was fifth.
Most of the fattest cities are on the East Coast.
The study compared 100 of the most populated US metro areas.
It compared three main categories: fat prevalence, weight-related health problems and healthy environments. To measure these areas, researchers studied percentage of overweight adults, teenagers and children; percentage of physically inactive adults; and access to health food.
