Wanted Alabama man arrested in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Several law enforcement agencies assisted in arresting an Alabama fugitive on Thursday.

Chattanooga police, the U.S. Marshals and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrived at the scene just after 12 p.m.

The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) said their Fugitive Unit saw the suspect enter a house on the 1900 block of South Orchard Knob Avenue.

They identified the suspect as Jakey Conner.

Conner was wanted for a “home-invasion-style robbery” with another man in Athens, Alabama. During the robbery, CPD said Conner was shot and injured.

He then escaped custody while being treated for his injuries. Authorities say Conner then fled to Chattanooga.

Authorities came into contact with Conner, who they say refused to exit the home.

It took two hours of negotiation for him to finally come out of the house.

CPD said he did not resist, and they took him into custody.

Conner is now awaiting extradition to Alabama. There, he faces charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling and first-degree burglary.
