Warriors Quarterback Logan Walters Enjoying Return to Marion Co
Marion County is back in the 2A state title game for the second year in-a-row, thanks in part to the play of quarterback Logan Walters.
He transferred to Marion County before the season started, although he’s not exactly new to the Warriors program.
Logan Walters grew up in Marion County, but he left his junior year to play high school ball in Alabama. But Walters felt the tug of home calling him back to the Warriors for his senior season.
Said Walters-"I really wanted to graduate with my friends. I wanted to walk across the stage with my friends."
Said head coach Ricky Ross-"He had been here, and he left on his own accord. We didn’t make it easy on him. He had a lot of offense to learn. He had to build trust."
Walters quickly built that trust, and he took control of an offense that has scored under 30-points in only two games this season.
Said Ross-"It’s all about dynamics. He added a piece to that puzzle. Our offensive coordinator does a great job of showcasing what you have."
Walters is dangerous because he’s such an effective runner.
"I just try to slip through the defense and get what I can."
Against Boyd Buchanan, Walters got hit in the head. He suffered a severe concussion that even kept him out of school for several days.
Said Walters-"I remember everything up to the play. I don’t remember like a week before the hit. I don’t remember the bus ride or anything like that. But up to the play, I remember the play."
Added Ross-"I think sometimes we maybe take things for granted. I’m not saying that he did. But when you get a new perspective sometimes, it can really turn you on."
Walters is healthy now. Last week he scored five touchdowns against Hampton as Marion County won to advance to the state championship game.
Said Walters-"Oh, it’s just great. It’s a dream come true. During the Hampton game, I had to pinch myself just to make sure it wasn’t a dream."
Walters and the Warriors will face Trezevant in the 2A state title game on Saturday at 12pm in Cookeville.
