Watch Perseids meteor shower this weekend
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Perseids meteor shower will take place this weekend, which usually peaks in mid-August.
NASA says viewers can expect to see up to 100 meteors per hour.
The meteor shower will be best viewed from August 11 through August 13.
Scientists say 2023 will be a good year to view the shower, since the moon will only be 10% illuminated.
“Perseids frequently leave long “wakes” of light and color behind them as they streak through Earth’s atmosphere,” NASA said. They also add that the Perseids is often recognized as the best meteor shower of the year.
The meteor shower can be best seen in the hours leading up to dawn. But they may be viewed as early as 10 p.m., according to NASA.
