Website: “Dalton, GA is 2nd Least Educated City in U.S.”

Dereke Ross is a native of Dalton, which is the second least educated city in the country, according to 24/7 Wall Street.

"I am right now in school at Northwest Georgia Technical Institution. I’m majoring in Industrial System Technology. I just made the Dean’s list and I have a 3.5 grade average total since I started," says Ross.

The site used data related to the percentage of residents with a bachelor’s degree or higher, median income and earnings, and poverty rate.

However, Dalton residents say the results don’t add up.

"I didn’t really believe it was an accurate article," says Chatsworth resident Lou Walls.

The self-proclaimed "Carpet Capital" was ranked with only 12.2% of it’s population with a 4-year degree.

"I think that’s wrong. I mean, why would we have a college here in Dalton if we’ve got the least educated people?" asks Kathy Shelton.

NorthWest High School sophomore Jared Arrieta supports the argument, saying several of his classmates have given up on school.

"Most people I know from tenth grade have dropped out of school. They say it’s too much work," says Arrieta.

Ross says his graduating class was much different.

"We had everybody in our class just about graduate," says Ross.

The people of Dalton tell me not only do they feel the article is inaccurate, they also say its insulting.

"They may not have doctorate degrees or things like that but they do go to college and they do get degrees," says Shelton.

"I just think the information was bogus," says Walls.

"Sometimes it’s not really on the teachers. Education starts at home. It doesn’t start at school," says Ross.

Wallethub, a personal finance site, also compiled a list of the ten least educated cities.

Dalton did not even make that list.
