Whataburger coming to Fort Payne

FORT PAYNE, Alabama (WDEF) – The Whataburger franchise has been inching closer to the Tennessee Valley.

Now we learn that a franchise will open in Fort Payne, Alabama.

The City Council on Tuesday night approved the sale of land that will be used to build the fast food restaurant.

Whataburger is a very popular franchise based in Texas, but moving east.

They are in the process of opening their first Tennessee locations in the Nashville area.

And there are 24 locations in Alabama, including Huntsville.

The new Fort Payne Whataburger will be on Highway 35 next to the old Jefferson’s building.

The property was proposed to become a new tourism center, but those plans fell through.

So the city is selling it to the franchise owner.
