What’s Right With Our Schools: 11th Hour Theater
DALTON, GA (WDEF) – A new, non-profit performing arts organization is up and running in Dalton. 11th Hour Theater and Creative Studio is a great place for kids to cultivate a healthy interest in performing. Let’s hit the stage for week’s “What’s Right With Our Schools.”
“It’s almost like there are two aspects that are co-mingling. We have the 11th hour theater where we do productions and anyone can come in and learn through just by doing by being part of the production. Where as the creative studio is more of a set up lesson plan with the ages of 8 to 13 and then 13 to 18; different kind of class segments where they get to come in and try everything,” Kaylee Smith, CEO, 11th Hour Theatre and Creative Studio said.
“They get to try acting and performing arts. They get to try lighting design sound design, costume, design, and construction and exactly know how faithful production goes together,” Smith said.
“Is definitely a natural follow up for what they do in drama class in the private and public schools around this area, but we also are offering like a full curriculum four month study for those who are in the homeschool community or you know learning to teach and learn with alternative schooling,” Smith said.
“It is a studio that is really putting education forward and it is something where we want to use the space. We would like to kind of go into unique spaces so we found this one and we thought we could really make it into something unique and fun for kids and adults and just make it something new. When you’re doing theater. You need space to move things around putting the stuff together as no easy feet. Whenever you are putting things together, you wanna have that safety of having space and especially you know if we’re teaching kids how to do that we want to give them the proper space to know how to do it. For me having that aspect was very life-changing. I was a very shy child so I saw the trajectory of my life really go in a different way and a more confident person that I found it myself so that’s something that I really wanna bring to the young people here that you know no matter how old you are whether you’re like four years old or you’re about to graduate high school you can always find that confidence in yourself and being able to have a skill that you learned and that you tackled yourself can really do that. Whether that is building set make up costume going on stage in front of a whole bunch of people can really make you find something in yourself that maybe you didn’t see before,” Madison Smith, CFO, 11th Hour Theatre and Creative Studio said.
