What’s Right With Our Schools: Blythe Bower

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) —  Cleveland city schools are yet again at the top.  Blythe Bower joins a select group as a reward school.  An honor that very few schools receive, and is showing the state, what’s right with our schools.

“Begin on possibly the first two questions for me. And then we will go back to what we need to do okay.”

“Blythe-Bower Elementary Schools a fabulous Elementary School here in Cleveland City Schools.  And it recently also received a level five.  Also that we were notified that they are designated as a reward school.  And there are very few reward schools across the state, and they have that means they continue to raise the bar and see tremendous growth in their academic achievement across the board at that school,” said Jeff Elliott,  Dean of Schools for Cleveland City Schools.

“Draw the materials you used.”

“We do what we do obviously because we love kids.  We don’t do it for a title or a reward.  But as a principal, this is just a testament to how hard the people in my building work.  They work tirelessly every day to help students be successful and to see success.  And for that to be recognized at the state level as a principal I could not be prouder.  Because they deserve every bit of recognition they can get.  Because of the hard work they put in on a day-to-day basis,” Joel Barnes, Principal at Blyth-Bower Elementary School.

“Right now what we’re working on is we’re decorating our parachute. And our basket.”

“I think the key is to just keep working at it.  I think that we have strived to better ourselves every year.  And we continue to work at that.  We feel very privileged to be a Reward School.  We’re very excited I think a lot of people came into play to get us to this point, so it’s very exciting,” said Hanah Burger, 1st Grade Teacher at Blyth-Bower Elementary School.

“So becoming a level five school and a Reward School is so much more than just academics.  It takes an entire team of people from every position in the school who care more about the whole child.  So meeting their physical needs, meeting their social emotional needs, all of their needs combined in order for the student to be able to be successful,” said Kristen Early, Assistant Principal at Blyth-Bower Elementary School.

“I have seen each teacher grow. I have seen the Principals grow. As each year has came it just seems like it keeps getting better and better every year.  I’m excited to find out what’s going to happen each year. I’m excited to see the growth in each student,” said Jessica Cullins, a parent of a student at Blyth-Bower Elementary School.

“We are so thrilled to be able to see that and our teachers are doing a great job. our students are committed to their learning. And, the leadership there has a vision to continue to meet the needs of our students in various ways.  Hats off to Blyth-Bower Elementary School for the  Rewards School status.  And the level five status,” said Elliot.

“I love Blyth-Bower Elementary School.  I was a previous student of Blyth-Bower Elementary School.  I’ve worked here since 2009 and I can’t imagine myself anywhere else,” said Burger.
