What’s Right With Our Schools: Catoosa College and Career Academy Logistics Class
RINGGOLD, GA (WDEF) – The Catoosa College and Career Academy specializes in helping students learn the skills they need to land a good job. We take a closer look at their logistics pathway in this week’s What’s Right With Our Schools.
Mike Anderson is the Logistics Instructor.
He explains, “At the Catoosa County Career Academy, you know it’s a CTAE program uh, Career Technical program. So, we have a logistics program where we teach kind of the fundamentals of the logistics industry. That involves both the transportation side of logistics, but also the operational side. So, you’ve got trucking, all the modes of transportation, brokerages, all that kind of stuff. But then we also talk about things that take place maybe in warehouses or manufacturing buildings, Inventory management, inventory control, production planning that kind of stuff as well.”
Steve Dowling is the Director of Safety Training for Covenant Logistics.
He explains, “I’m excited to be out here today. We rarely get an opportunity to be out in the community, and, and work with some of our kids that are in a logistics program. So, we’re getting to talk to them about what we do every day, the importance of trucking. How it connects all of our products that are in the stores; and gets it there, and really just giving them things to think about from both. What’s involved in trucking as far as what it looks like every day for a driver, as well as just understanding the overall industry as a whole.”
Lydia Delay is a senior at Ringgold.
She says, “Logistics is way more than driving 18 wheelers. I took this class because I want to be a business owner in the future. So, I take this class just to learn more about the, I guess logistic side of things. And learn how to run a trucking company, if that’s what I choose to do.”
Landon Hubbert is also a senior at Ringgold.
He chips in, “I’ve just learned, not even just today, but throughout my whole entire year about logistics, business managing it. It’s so much more than anybody whatever think. The whole process of what goes into it. You know talking about the truck today, there’s you know all sorts of stuff you have to do to keep it running. There’s things like the fifth wheel, the kingpin, that nobody would ever even begin to imagine about it. And there’s just so much that goes into it. It’s really cool.”
Mike Anderson concludes, “Our Partnerships with companies like Covenant Logistics are, is so valuable. And so important to us and to our kids. It gives them the opportunity to go from the classroom to real life. And put their hands and be in the space of these things like this truck. We also, a couple days ago, we were actually in the Covenant Logistics office, and they were showing us what they do in their office, but we, it’s invaluable. We’re so appreciative of our corporate partners for working with us and doing things like this today.”
