What’s Right With Our Schools: Catoosa County Awards

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA (WDEF) – The Georgia State School Superintendent recently made a stop in Catoosa County. Richard Woods honored 11 local schools for their academic achievements. Celebrating student’s success is a perfect example of “What’s Right With Our Schools.”

“I think the secret starts out with looking at every individual student and every teacher focused on every individual student and not allowing students to drop through the cracks. We have the teachers in the classrooms of course, but then we have that second level where we have an academic and a behavioral student intervention team that goes through and if any of the students are having any kind of an issue that is discussed and we come up with some kind of plan every month on a monthly basis to help those students,” David Beard, Principal, Tiger Creek Elementary School said.

“I think, you know, it goes down to our teachers pour their hearts into what they do every single day. They pour their hearts into their work. Our students rise to the challenge and it just shows that when everyone’s committed to excellence, um, you know, we’re fulfilling our, our county promise, our vision of every student every day without exception,” Jayme Dills, Assistant Principal, Tiger Creek Elementary School said.

Beard says, “It takes a a long while to get to where we need to be. the last two or three years we’ve seen exceptional growth and uh that’s just kind of call all come together here at the end.”

Dills says, “I think one of the most important things is we make sure that students basic needs are met first. Um I think that’s so important and you know when kids know that they’re seen and they’re cared for and they’re loved you know they’re willing to rise to that challenge too.”

“We had eight schools that received either literacy or John Hancock or math and then we had two middle schools and we had one high school that received an award as well. We have a focus to make ensure that all of our students are successful. And we’re always working hard and collaborating with one another, our teachers and our leaders to ensure that we are giving the best quality education for our students,” Gina Haynes, Director of Elementary Education, Catoosa County School System said.
