What’s Right With Our Schools: Chatt Prep Championship Rings
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – When we were kids, it was all about the trophies, but these days nothing says, “I’m a winner” quite like a championship ring. The Chatt Prep Basketball team recently got some new jewelry after winning a State Title last year. On their freshly adorned ring fingers rests a shining example of what’s right with our schools.
Diamond Kelley is the Principal at Chatt Prep.
She says, “Today we gather to celebrate a remarkable achievement, by our basketball team. This state championship ring ceremony is not just about the rings themselves. But about the hard work and teamwork that brought us to this moment.”
Christian Collins in the head basketball coach at Chatt Prep.
He says, “I want them to look at, them as you know, not just the athlete, but a scholar as well, as a scholar, as a young man. Once again, most our guys on a team, everybody on the team has a 3.0 or above GPA. So these, these rings, and this gold ball, it just means a lot. Not just basketball but it just means it’s a testament of their character, um a testament of their academics. It’s just a testament of you know how they are raised by their parents and faculty and staff here as well.”
He continues, “A lot of people realize but you know they ended a 17-year drought for Chattanooga basketball. Once again you know for, for my boys, for the school, for the faculty, for their parents, to be a part of History. It’s amazing man. What matters the most is you know you keeping God first. You just fighting through that adversity and once again, the end product on for us was winning the state championship. And you know getting this nice little bling on our fingers man.”
One team member says, “I would like to say how honored I am to be standing here today, celebrating this incredible achievement with all of you. And each season has taught me something new. But this year was special. Not just because we won a championship, but because of the bond we created as a team. This season wasn’t just about individual accomplishments. It was about coming together and proving that we could do something amazing as a team.”
Another adds, “Winning the state champ championship is something that I’ll never forget. It’s a moment that that made me proud and not just myself but everyone who contribute to this victory. I’m excited to see what the future hold us to our team. And I know this is just the beginning.”
Coach Collins concludes, “The boys got a chance to see you know, what their hard work, what their dedication, what their sacrifice, what the commitment, um you know brought to the table. You know once again like I said in my speech, we went through a lot of adversity; went through a lot of obstacles and that’s just life man. Not just in basketball but that’s in life in general.”
Principal Kelley adds, ” This is just one of many championships. So, expect to experience this again. Congratulations to our basketball team.”
