What’s Right With Our Schools: Chattanooga Charter Schools of Excellence Learning Launch

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Charter Schools of Excellence recently held their Learning Launch and Back 2 School Bash. The K-11 program hosted families of all grades with activities, educational opportunities and free back to school items.  That’s a helpful example of what’s right with our schools.

Dr. Alex Boochie is the principal at Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence.

He says, “Well, we’re really excited about bringing our community schools together. We’re excited because we’re one big organization. And we don’t always get to do an event like this where we’re all here. We’re all working together. The admins working right alongside with the teachers. We thought that it would be really important for all three um levels of school families to see each other on the weekends; to see us and how we can serve them on the weekends. We like that Elementary is going to be transitioning eventually to the middle school, middle school eventually to the high school so they actually get to see and walk that high school campus, which is not. We’re kind of away from the other two campuses. So it allows them to see our campus together.”

Jalessa Smartt is a parent.

She says, ” Just come out and show our support today, see what’s going on this evening, this morning. Excited for the new year.”

Dr. Jennifer Huskins is the elementary school principal for the Chattanooga School of Excellence.

She says, “Education starts at home. And um we love having that work in relationship with our, with all of our families. This just gives an opportunity to kick off the year in a fun and informational way. And give away some CCSE swag.

Robert Rooks is the Senior College Access Advisor for the Educational Opportunity Center.

He explains, “If they need to get high set GED resources we can provide that at no charge. We can also help them get enrolled in vocational programs, as well as associate degree programs. And once they complete that, if they want to take it a step further to transition to an Associates or a Bachelor, we also help with that process as well at no cost.

Ariana Gladney is the Middle School Principal for the Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence.

She says, “We have a lot of vendors here, food trucks, our PTA sign up, Athletics signups, um different opportunities for them to engage. And us just give them the opportunity to see us outside of the school building, outside of calling you for attendance or behavior issues really just get to see us in a different light. Um and build those relationships cuz relationships are the foundation for all our success.”

Sophomore Cameron Wilson adds, “I’ve been going here for a long time, since kindergarten. It’s a uh… mean I like the teachers most likely. There learning, that’s a good thing about it. And also, all the students that come here. It’s very great.”

Dr. Boochie concludes, “We are Overjoyed about the coming school year. We are all servant leaders in this school. Kids can come in and get everything that they need so we’re all excited for the mission and the vision to serve these families and the kids. And give them everything they need to be successful Scholars.”
