What’s Right With Our Schools: Chattanooga IT Pathways Hackathon
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) -Some of the sharpest local minds recently came together for the Chattanooga I-T Pathways Hackathon. It was a chance to shape the future of our region’s tech workforce. Making sure that students learn the skills they need to land good jobs upon graduation is an important example of “What’s Right With Our Schools.”
“So today we are having Hamilton County‘s IT Hakathon and this is a time for us to bring together employers and businesses, community members education providers, and the government to talk about what to do with tech workforce,” Jessica Friedman, Dir. of Viable Pathway to Prosperity, Chattanooga 2.0 said.
“Where is targeting young people that have County schools so our To figure out the kind of career pathway that young teenagers can get into around the tech word force. And we want to figure out solutions that will get those that are that are have less opportunity into a tech careers across the county, Friedman said.
“This was a unique opportunity to bring industry, K through 12 partners, colleges in universities to the table to talk about Chattanooga, our needs in information, tech technology, computer related careers, and how we can connect the dot so that we can prepare for the future workers. We have many students who come to us they want to have a career, especially in a computer related field they don’t know what’s out there. Connecting with the industry partners allows us to know exactly what’s out there. Exactly what the local needs are as well as the skills needed to fill those positions,” Tremaine Powell, Dean of Engineering and IT, Chattanooga State Community College said.
“I just think that these type of conversations in these type of programs are critical for the community as we continue to grow as we continue to create jobs here. And trying to meet not only the employer demands, but also trying to upscale, our talent in the market to be able to create thriving wages here to be able to bring more dollars into the market. That can overall help people change and improve their quality of Living,” Adam Meyers, VP of Economic Development, Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce.
“Opportunities like this where we all can come together both the K through 12, the Chattanooga Chamber, industry partners, the colleges and universities and the community is a wonderful opportunity for us to grow,” said.
