What’s Right With Our Schools: Gordon Lee Middle School Math Achievements

CHICKAMAUGA, GA (WDEF) – Gordon Lee Middle School is celebrating a big academic win in the math department. Based on last year’s Georgia Milestones, Gordon Lee saw major gains in every middle school math level, including Algebra One. All that adds up to a great example of what’s right with our schools.

Bradley Floyd is the Vice Principal at Gordon Lee Middle.

He says, “I think a lot of the hard work is from our students themselves, but a lot of it is our incredible teachers. We have incredible teachers they work hard every day in the classroom out of the classroom. The extra hours they put in at night. I know they do that. They come in after hours to the school and work but. The students themselves for sure, but our incredible teachers like I said before. I said when we’re talking is we have the best teachers in state I truly believe that.”

Principal Chris Edge chips in,” Our mission is to overcome adversity that’s been our thought process all year long. We’ve really focused on it. We really focus on putting our kids in tough situations and expecting more and when they reach that bar moving the bar and asking them to achieve the next bar, and I think that that mindset all year has developed a little bit of grit and some of us teachers and some of our students. It’s going to be on something that will benefit us moving forward.”

We talked students, too. They told us “I love all the faculty they’re very sweet and they really try their hardest to teach our students and they treat us well and I really love the atmosphere and just radius around us and just all the good vibes it gives us.”

“My favorite subject is probably Georgia’s history. I really am into the history and it’s just I really enjoy it.”

“My favorite part about Gordon Lee middle school is just like the all-around it’s always a good school you don’t go through like as much bullying and as bad stuff I just want to give credit to the janitors because they like keep this place good.”
