What’s Right With Our Schools: OLPH 85th Anniversary
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – For 85 years Our Lady of Perpetual Help has lived up to its name. The school and church are getting ready to celebrate that milestone this (8/26-8/28) weekend! You’re invited.
Father Arthur Torress explains, “This weekend is coming, for us, our 85th anniversary of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and School. So, both buildings at the same time are celebrating our 85th anniversary. We started almost at the same time. The understanding is that the school came first, and then a year later the church was built.”
He continues, “We are forming kids that in the future they’re gonna be able to respond to the world’s challenges. For us to be a church and to have a school as a ministry, is part of our identity who we are. The church is, as we say in Latin, “Mater magistra,” so a mother and teacher. That’s what the school is.
Father Torress concludes, “We have a big celebration for our 85th. So, we’re going to start on August the 26th, a Friday. So it’s going to be for adults for 21 and above, to come together. We’re going to have a live music. We’re going to have food. We’re going to have drinks. We’re going to have social for everybody, and so this is going to be our kickoff weekend. Sunday of course is going to be our mass. It’s going to be at 10 a.m. and thanksgiving to God for this beautiful ministry that we have, both the church and the school. It’s going to be at 10 a.m. as I said with Bishop Stika coming from Knoxville to to be the main celebrant of this mass. So, you all are welcome to come and join us, of course to celebrate and to give thanks to God for this beautiful ministry that we have.”
