Whitfield and Murray Counties remain under Flood Warnings

Dalton, GA (WDEF) – The Conasauga River, Coahulla Creek and Holly Creek all remain under Flood Warnings through at least Thursday evening.

        The Conasauga river at Tilton affecting Gordon, Murray and Whitfield Counties has been extended until Saturday afternoon.
        Wednesday morning the River gauge measured 18.9 feet. That’s above the 18-foot flood stage.  Minor flooding is already occurring with moderate flooding forecast.  The river is expected to rise to a level of 24.8-feet tomorrow afternoon, and stay above flood stage through Saturday.  According to the National Weather Service, at 24 feet moderate flooding begins.  That means significant flooding expands into the woodlands…fields and pastures along the river upstream and downstream from the Brackett Ridge Road bridge.

        The flood warning for the Consauga River near Eton will expire tomorrow night.  At that gauge, the river measured 12.6 feet Wednesday morning.  That’s above the  12-foot flood stage.  Officials expect the river to continue to rise to near 13.8 feet by Wednesday evening. The river will fall below flood stage Thursday early afternoon.

        A flood warning for Coahulla Creek near Keiths Mill near Dalton remains in effect through Thursday evening.  Wednesday morning the creek was at 18.6-feet, above the 15-foot flood stage. Minor flooding is occurring.  Officials expect Coahulla Creek to crest Wednesday evening at 19.3-feet.  If it reaches 20-feet, flooding will occur in the fields and woodlands upstream and downstream from the Keiths Mill Road bridge. Some areas will be under 4 feet of water.
