Whitfield Co. Sheriff’s Office purchases Carter Kits

The Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) has shared that they have purchased Carter Kits, which can be used to assist officers during calls involving children who have autism spectrum disorders.

They say these kits are filled with tools such as headphones (for those with hypersensitivity to sound), sunglasses (for those with hypersensitivity to light), fidget toys (for those with hyposensitivity), and guides to help communicate with individuals who are non-verbal.

The WCSO says all of their patrol deputies were taught a block of instruction on Autism Spectrum Disorder that included examples of hypersensitivity, hyposensitivity, and common “dos and don’ts” of handling children who are on the spectrum.
