WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Whitfield County announced a new playground coming to Riverbend Park this fall.

Officials expect the park to be completed by this September.

The recreation committee held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, August 2.

Brian Chastain is the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners and Recreation Director. In March, he formed the recreation committee, comprised of local residents, to select a playground design.

Committee member Matt Early drew a design for the park, inspired by his six-year-old daughter. Early says his daughter is most excited to play on the playground while her brother plays baseball.

Whitfield County officials say the area for the playground used to be vacant but will be made into something children of all ages can enjoy.

Riverbend Park first became operation in April 2022. It is a 75-acre recreational facility in Whitfield County. Already established in the park is a gym, indoor walking track, soccer field, baseball and softball fields, and more.

“This playground will fill the piece of the park we have been missing,” Chastain said. “This will make sure we will truly have something for everyone.”
