Whitfield County homicide investigation

Dalton, GA (WDEF) – Whitfield County deputies and the GBI are investigating the death of 41-year-old Myrna Rosales as a homicide.

She passed away Monday from injuries she sustained over the weekend.

A man brought an unconscious Rosales to the Emergency Room Saturday.

He said she had been visiting him and left.

Then a few minutes later he started to leave, but found her lying at the bottom of his front porch stairs.

Deputies say he left the hospital a while later.

When medical personal examined and treated Rosales, they found her injuries were not consistent with someone just falling down some stairs.

Deputies started to investigate and identified the man as 28-year-ol David Emmanuel Rivera of 1402 Classic Chase Drive in Dalton.

Investigators say Rivera had an argument with the victim at his residence before taking her to the hospital.

Rivera fled from the area, but was taken into custody the next day in Aurora, Illinois, where he had relatives living.

He’s charged with Aggravated Battery.

A Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Technician and a Special Agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation traveled to Aurora to process the suspect’s vehicle and interview him on Sunday.

The GBI’s crime lab will do an autopsy on Rosales.

The investigation is ongoing.
