Whitfield County looking for work detail escapee

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – A 19-year-old Crandall man escaped from a Whitfield County jail work detail Tuesday afternoon.

That resulted in two Dalton public schools going on “precautionary” lockdown and causing representatives of several law enforcement agencies to converge on the scene.

The inmate, Tommy Dale Long, was captured less than 30 minutes after he left the work group near Crown Garden Mill on Chattanooga Avenue.

Long was serving a five month sentence.
