Wildfire burning 200 acres in Polk County
POLK COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — There is a wildfire burning in Polk County, local fire departments said on Tuesday.
They describe the blaze as a large brush fire.
It is located near McJunkin Road and New Stansbury Road, near Turtletown.
Tri-State Mutual Aid requested help from Englewood Rural Fire, Athens City Fire and Polk County crews.
Firefighters say they will stay on scene until released by Incident Command.
Polk County Emergency officials first reported the fire on Monday, November 6.
Early Tuesday morning, the fire spanned about 50 acres.
As of 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the fire area had grown to 200 acres. It is only 20% contained at this time.
Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area unless they are residents.
