Wine in grocery stores
Aubrey Stout, Riverside Wine and Spirits Sales Representative said, "I’m sure it will have some effect because people love convenience." The group Red White and Food is making their final push to encourage people to vote yes to wine sales in Tennessee’s retail food stores. Jamie Campbell, Chattanooga said, "Grocery stores you know they are going to focus on name brand stuff like that."
They have collected more than 250-thousand signatures in order to have the wine question on the November ballot. 78 communities will see the question on the ballet including seven communities in Hamilton county. Plus Monteagle, Cleveland and Athens. However residents in Dunlap, Sequatchie County will not see the question on their ballot. Representatives with Riverside Wine and Spirits on Manufactures Road say they feel the vote won’t effect their business. Stout said, "We’re not really concerned here just because we have such a variety of wines. We are more of a specialty shop so we do a lot of bulk. Boxed wine. But our main business is people coming in for specialty products."
If the referendum passes, local food stores will be able to sell wine in stores by summer 2016. Election Day is on November 4th and early voting begins Wednesday, October 15th.
