Woman commits identity theft, steals $8,000 in Lafayette, police say
LAFAYETTE, Ga. (WDEF) — Lafayette Police are looking for a woman who they say stole another’s identity and fraudulently withdrew money from the victim’s account.
The Lafayette Police Department believes there are two people working together, committing the same crimes. They said another similar incident happened on the same day in Whitfield County.
Police warn that the woman in the photos “appears to be wearing a wig and using a walking cane to disguise her identity.”
They added that she created a fake passport with another woman’s identity. She then used the passport at a local bank to withdraw over $8,000 from the victim’s account, police said.
According to the police department, the suspects are traveling in a red Nissan Rogue. The Nissan has a New York license plate, which reads “FYF8330.”
They are asking anyone with information on this incident to contact Sgt. Pepper Stanfield at the Lafayette Police Department. You can reach him at 706-639-1540, extension 1544.
