Woman finds camera in her hotel bathroom

CULLMAN, Alabama (WDEF) – A Tennessee woman says she doesn’t know if she can ever trust a hotel room again after a trip to Cullman, Alabama.

Shaylee Smith stayed overnight to see her sister’s volleyball tournament.

But she didn’t stay in the hotel long after discovering a hidden camera in her room.

“I walked into the bathroom and started to get undressed to get out of my pajamas and I would have not seen it if I wasn’t facing the way I was facing and I happened to look up and there was a little screw that did not belong there. And when I seen it, I was like that can’t be what I think it is.”

Her first reaction was to call her mom in Knoxville.

Her mom called the police.

“Your one job as a mom in life is to protect your kids, especially your daughters, so that freaked me out. You’re just like heart broken and angry at the same time you want justice for your kids.”

Cullman Police say they are investigating the case.

Days Inn management says they are cooperating with investigators but cannot comment further on the case.

Police did not find an SD card with the camera and don’t think it was active when Shaylee was there.

But that’s not much comfort for her.

“Even staying there it was very, very scary. I double and tripled checked the room but I still felt like there was something I was missing. I don’t know, I feel like I’m gonna have a hard time staying at hotels from now.”
