Woman shot to death in Ringgold

RINGGOLD, GA (WDEF-TV) GBI along with the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department are trying to put together the pieces to a shooting death in Ringgold.

The unusual circumstances of what happened has everyone including neighbor, Jodi Dunaway, confused.

"It just put me in shock what has happened," said Dunaway.

Neighbors on the quiet street of Smoketree Circle were surprised to hear someone was shot and killed in this home.

Dunaway said the people who live here are a nice couple.

"I mean that’s what I got from them, caring, loving people," said Dunaway.

The scene at this home paints a bit of a mystery.

The Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department found a woman shot in the home by the home owner’s on again off again girlfriend.

Sheriff Gary Sisk said they have to sort through the story and the evidence.

"The other female we’re still trying to figure out her position and her relationship with everyone," said Sheriff Sisk.

The on-again, off-again girlfriend of the home owner says she heard something in the home and called out for them twice, but never got a response.

So she grabbed a gun to go see what was in the home, and saw a shadowy figure.

"She saw they had something in their hand so she discharged the firearm, shooting the other female," Sheriff Sisk added.

When asked if the victim was armed?

Sheriff Sisk said, "There was no other weapon at the scene."

Dunaway said this is a quiet neighborhood where everyone knows everyone and to have a stranger in her home would have startled her as well.

"I mean I would have got in a scared mood too," said Dunaway. "If I called out two or three times and nobody would have answered me. I would have took the shot too."

Sheriff Sisk says his deputies are not sure why this unidentified woman was in this home or if she knew the couple.

None of the names of the people involved have been released.
