Women Awarded Civilian Medal of Appreciation for Assisting with Infant Left in Hot Vehicle
The Collegedale Police Department (CPD) has recognized three women for stepping up to help attempt to save a baby who was left in a hot car in August of 2024.
On August 12, 2024, Chief of Police Jack Sapp encountered a medical emergency involving an unresponsive infant who had been left inside a hot vehicle.
Three women, Dr. Laura Thomas, Jessica Pardo, and Heather Richardson, all medical professionals who happened to be nearby, stepped forward to assist, according to CPD.
They provided medical assistance to the infant and continued life-saving efforts until emergency services arrived.
The infant did not survive despite all efforts.
“These women did not have to stop, but they did. They saw a very small child in crisis and immediately stepped in, using their training and their hearts to help us do
everything possible. Their courage, professionalism, and compassion in such a heartbreaking moment will never be forgotten by this department.”– Chief Jack Sapp said.
Dr. Thomas, Ms. Pardo, and Ms. Richardson were awarded the Civilian Medal of Appreciation from the American Police Hall of Fame.
The medals were presented by Chief Sapp during the Collegedale Commission Meeting on Monday, January 5.
