Woodlawn Elementary’s Melody Hilty breaks through autism
But for one special Murray County Teacher there are no barriers.

Ms. Melody’s Woodlawn Elementary classroom is a safe-haven for her students where being different is a good thing.
Ms. Melody says, "My job is an adventure and you come in every day and you never know what’s going to happen."
For 11 years Ms. Melody has helped bring the children in her Autism class out of their shells calming behavior obstacles and helping them interact, "It’s just part of them. It’s just part of who they are and they’re special and they’re funny."
To the parents of her kids Ms. Melody is a miracle worker…
Woodlawn Elementary Parent Debbie Gibson reads from her Golden Apple nomination letter, "She finds a way to get into the world of a child with autism."
Gibson’s seven year old Christian has only been in Ms. Melody’s class a few weeks, but Gibson says the change is amazing.
Ms. Melody asks Christian, "What’s your favorite thing?" He smiles just a tad and replies, "Folder Work."
Gibson says Christian is talking more than every before and now he loves coming to school, "He’s learning. He’s learning so much. It’s like my flower is finally blooming and it’s wonderful."
Ms. Melody says it’s just one of the little blessings she celebrates every day.
She loves her job and says every small accomplishment brings another smile, "It’s a good reason to get up and come to work."
