Woodmore Elementary Students At Harlem Globetrotters Game
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Harlem Globetrotters have captivated the minds and hearts of young people across this nation for generations. Tonight… one former N-B-A player who is from Chattanooga gives back to the students of Woodmore elementary who are still recovering from the recent fatal bus crash.
” We always get a group of kids from the inner city and we give out tickets to let the experience something different,” said Gary McClendon.
Former NBA player Gary McClendon teamed up with Chattanooga businesses to cheer up some of the survivors of the deadly Woodmore school bus crash.
“When I looked at the Harlem Globetrotters coming here I’m a former player of the Harlem Magicians. I reached out to them and I said… we looking to purchase about 50 tickets and it ended up being 100 tickets for the kids because we found out there was more kids at Woodmore school, so not only did we did the kids we did the parents and their siblings. So we just want to create a night that they would never forget,” said McClendon.
The Woodmore bus crash claimed 6 lives and the kids at Woodmore Elementary are still recovering, faculty members felt this would help take their mind off of things for awhile.
Brenda Adamson-Cothran, the principal of Woodmore Elementary says, “I think it means a lot it’s important to them to be able to continue to do what they need to do to grieve the lost of their classmates and brothers and sisters but also to take time to get some rest time and care for themselves and gave fun.”
“I saw the smiles on they face… the laughter… the fact that the team came down and took pictures with them it was priceless.”
