Workshop held to encourage women in office

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – In Tennessee, only 17% of seats in the legislature are held by women, and Chattanooga has never had a female mayor.

Those are two of the points made during an all day seminar now underway.

The organizers of the two workshops going on today at The Well want to encourage more women to run for elective office.

One of the workshop organizers, April Goebeler said, “Two of the barriers that women often have when they uh, think about running for office: first, they don’t feel like they’re qualified, so and second, they’re not asked. This is to, this program, this uh, workshop is designed to get over that feeling of not feeling qualified. This will provide women the tools to run for office.”

The second seminar on holding elective office will be held on November 2nd. It’s for high school and college age women.
