1 charged with DUI for suicide attempt at Chester Frost, sheriff says
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office reported they stopped a drunk person from committing suicide at Chester Frost Park.
A significant law enforcement presence was at Chester Frost Park at 3 a.m. Thursday. The sheriff’s office said they had received reports of a person inside a vehicle threatening to kill themself.
As deputies approached, they said the person drove their vehicle over a six-foot concrete sea wall, across the beach and into the water.
However, the car got stuck in the silt, 15 yards away from the beach in just three feet of water, HCSO added.
Deputies waded in the water to get the person out of the vehicle after several attempts to contact them failed. The person refused to speak with deputies or come to shore, authorities said.
They then brought the person safely to shore, and EMS took them to a local medical facility for evaluation.
The sheriff’s office has filed charges against this person, including DUI and reckless endangerment.
