Carjacking victim says man jumped in his truck on Gunbarrel

Chattanooga/Ringgold (WDEF) – The carjacking and chase this morning through three counties all started in the 2000 block of Gunbarrel Road.

64 year old Michael Spector says a man ran up to his truck and said he was in an accident and needed a ride to the emergency room.

Spector says the man then jumped in the passenger side.

He ordered the man out, but the suspect patted his pants leg and said he had a gun.

The man then commandeered the truck and took off.

Police were able to track the truck through town, out St. Elmo and into Walker County.

That’s where Georgia State Patrol officers spotted the truck and gave chase.

Troopers tell us several drivers had to take evasive action to avoid him.

Eventually, they got 25 year old Gregory S. Sholtz to pull over on Highway 27 between Cloud Springs Road and Ringgold.

Troopers say he was combative and they had to use a taser on him.

The trooper also says Sholtz confessed to him that he was on meth the whole time.

NOTE: The location of the original carjacking has changed throughout the day.
